I saw some people talking about this book on Facebook and wondered if it'd be good for my 14-year-old daughter. I got it to read before giving it to her. This book was great and exceptionally enjoyable. I'm not a reader, but I ended up staying up late every night during the week because it captured my interest. It made me look forward to bed time so I could read more. I think I read the last 150 pages all on a Friday night staying up way past normal bed time for me. My wife wondered what had gotten into me. I'll probably wait a couple years before giving it to my daughter to read, but I'm considering giving it to my 16-year-old son instead. I've seen many reviews here discussing the book's value to girls, but there's value here for boys as well. The two main male characters paint very different pictures on how to approach dating. Next time my son is in a dating relationship, I'd like to be able to ask him, "Are you treating her like Jake, or Parker?"Product details

Shattered Rose Winsor Series Book 1 edition by Tammy L Gray Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I originally downloaded this book because it was free, had good reviews and caught my attention. It sat on my kindle for a long time before I started to read. When I finally did start to read it i pleasantly surprised. This is a really good book for older adolescents, young adults and parents of them. As the mother and a Christian I found the book very interesting . It's not your cheesy romance story but a more realistic view of young adult thoughts, perceptions, struggles and the emotions that go along. Each chapter starts with a few lines that appear to be prayers. You do not realize until the end what character is speaking. That wrapped the whole story up and made the book for me. Loved it and have already purchased 2nd book in the series! Glad I stumbled upon this book.
I am so glad that I discovered Tammy Gray’s books! Shattered Rose, the first book in the Winsor series, kept me enthralled from beginning to end. The characters, Avery, Issy, Jake & Parker are in college, making this a young adult genre, but even though I’m much older than that, I still loved the book.
It was so hard to watch Avery being torn between reaching for something good, and then turning back to her painful, broken habits because she didn’t feel she deserved anything better.
All the characters are struggling with pain and heartache and it comes out in living that some would judge them for. It is so easy to look at teenagers, or people of any age for that matter, who get into trouble and think they are “bad” without looking into the souls in pain underneath.
A great story, I loved it and can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Shattered Rose by Tammy L Gray is a young adult novel worth the read. If you have been spending too much time on cheesy romance then grab a hold of this book. Avery Nichols isn’t your average character, she’s the very nice girl “on the surface” but inside she is at war, constant war with her demons and the biggest is a desperate struggle to love herself unconditionally. Then she meets a handsome young man, Jake Matthews, sweet guy, charming and Prince like, his character so carefully cultivated and defined he makes you fall in love with him instantly. Avery fell hard but how can you love someone else without first loving your own self? How can you give yourself away without caring deeply about yourself first?
Tammy L Gray is a masterful writer and she weaves her players in this novel so delicately, so detailed. She takes real situations, and mixes them with her raw emotions and makes them so three-dimensional it just blows you away. No spoilers; read this book. If you have ever struggled with these demons, if you have ever struggled or struggling to develop a healthy love for yourself, then you need to check out this book, it’s well written, fun, deeply moving, emotional and very inspiring. I praise the author for being different and writing something different that’s meant to move readers in an inexplicable way.
As a Christian novel, this falls short of the mark, but it does offer a realistic view of how many young people today with little Christian background face the world. Avery, a young college girl, has major self-esteem issues which have deep roots in how she was treated by her parents.Avery, like many young people today, falls into some deep traps without understanding at all how vulnerable she is and what she needs to do to avoid them. Half way through the novel, I wanted to talk some sense into her as she was blindly falling into the same downward spiral. I was grateful that Parker and Parker's mom gave her some help, but even Parker didn't seem to share that much with Avery about what Jesus' life and death make available for anyone who believes. Still a good read, but the grammar mistakes and typos detracted a bit from the story.
Definitely wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 16 years old. I give that as the age breaking point because I think girls by that age are already facing some of the pressures and temptations that Avery faces in this novel.
Wow, reread this story because first time I skipped parts because it was late and I was impatient and wanted to see how it ended. When I reread from where I had left off I realized how many parts of this book mirrored my life. I went through the destructive relationships and the bulemia. And I too found Christ and unconditional love and finally overcame. I hope other women can see that we do not have to let other people dictate how we view ourselves. God made us in his image which means he made us beautiful in his eyes and his are the only ones that matter
